The Talent Development
Office (TDO) will help build a District infrastructure through
cross-departmental collaboration that will create the conditions to
foster the development of excellent teachers and leaders with a strong focus
on equity in all aspects of public education. Through strategic focus on university preparation,
recruitment, induction, and professional development efforts that are
aligned to TDO's framework for excellent teaching and leadership, TDO will
retain talented teachers and leaders who are equipped with the necessary
skills to ensure that students thrive in every classroom in every school.
Moreover, TDO supports teachers and administrators in their efforts
to develop — through personal-professional collaboration at both the
classroom and school-site levels, through reflection, and through their own continuing
education — into highly effective classroom practitioners and school-site
leaders. An
essential resource
for both new and experienced educators, TDO focuses
on the structuring and management of individual-classroom and whole-school learning environments and
the quality of instruction and leadership, insofar as those structures,
management strategies, environments, instructional practices, and
leadership models promote student achievement. TDO is committed to recruiting, supporting and retaining exemplary OUSD faculties
and school-site leaders through its
mentoring and professional development programs. Thereby TDO
promotes the general model of whole faculties that are highly developed
in their professional capacities and where collaboration is central to
the work. This strengthens the ability of schools and the District
overall to grow teachers and administrators from within, to nurture
them, and to attract and retain the finest in the profession. |
